(U)HNWI Billionaire Greece Hedge Fund Private Wealth Relocations Tax United Kingdom

Bloomberg reports[1] that the British billionaire hedge fund manager Chris Rokos of Rokos Capital Management intends to cease UK tax residency and relocate from the United Kingdom to Greece[2].

The founder of the Mayfair-based FCA-regulated hedge fund management firm was estimated by The Times of London[3] to have paid £330m in tax in 2026, putting him as Britain’s third-ranked largest individual taxpayer[4].

Greece introduced a resident non-domicile regime in 2019[5] designed to entice (U)HNWIs to shift tax residency and relocate to Greece. It is a regime modelled after the historic UK res. non-dom. regime and operates as a flat-tax regime for foreign-sourced income (€100,000 annual lump sum).

Additionally, Greece enhanced the attractiveness of relocating for fund managers in June 2026 by lowering the tax treatment of qualifying “carried interest” to a flat 5% capital gains tax[6].

Local reporting suggests that the Greek minister of finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis was personally involved in discussions[7].

As part of his relocation as an individual, Rokos Capital Management will establish a local office in Greece. It has not been confirmed as to whether the firm intends to seek authorisation as an investment adviser under MiFID II with the Hellenic Capital Market Commission.

This relocation is against the backdrop of an upcoming UK budget where an “exit tax[8] is expected to be introduced (alongside potential increases in the headline capital gains tax rate) and prior litigation with HMRC[9] which parallels similar enforcement action by the tax authority against other[10] financiers[11].
